Spontaneous Sundates are the sweetest

As much as I love to plan and schedule the things I do, it is truly those spontaneous, spur-of-the-moment events that spice up life and make it all the more worthwhile. In a rare occurrence, I found myself with a free afternoon, on the last day of my sembreak no less. And, as always, my beloved and dependable best friend came to the rescue.

Let me just say that there are so many perks to having a best friend who’s working like mad and is very generous with her time and money. So generous in fact that we ended up buying 5 sets of fish balls/squid balls/chicken balls, 1 bag of Marty’s Cracklin’, 2 bottles of Mountain Dew, and 2 glasses of taho. Parang lalaki lang kung kumain! Surprisingly (or should that be unsurprisingly?) we managed to finish them all (unless we count those 4 pieces of fish ball and my half-filled bottle of Mountain Dew that we gave away) as we had a mini-picnic on the Sunken Garden.

It was a refreshing change of scenery from our usual “high-end” dinners at the Fort, and to have the opportunity to sit around and merely be was priceless. We saw the sun set and the sky change colors, had a view of the stars as we lay on our backs, and even saw a firefly. In between we talked about life and love, God and ministry, studies and career, our plans and dreams. All these and still Jel had the time to paint my fingernails!

As we sat there, we couldn’t help but think how it’s really the simple and little things that make life worth living. We didn’t need much, didn’t even spend much, but those 3 hours were pure bliss – nothing but conversation and an appreciation of life and its beauty.

I couldn’t have thought of a better way to end my sembreak. This day was just amazing from beginning to end – from worshipping the Lord first thing in the morning to getting to spend time with one of the most important people in my life. Truly these moments are irreplaceable! No matter how busy med school gets, these are the moments I would not trade for anything.

So I tell you, live life! Seize the day! And make every moment count!

Cheers!

Janelle
